Training courses

23-25 October 2024: ATMONEXT training course

In response to growing requests for data management practices associated within atmospheric satellite Cal/Val activities, especially to support data formatting, data upload and data download from EVDC, we are hosting the Atmosphere and Climate Data Management Workshop for Next Generation Earth Observation and Satellite Calibration and Validation Scientists (ATMONEXT).

About workshop:

The workshop is necessary to tackle evolving challenges in managing atmospheric data generated/planned to be generated by scientists, as part of (1) research infrastructure projects, (2) field-, ship-, drone- and aircraft campaigns, and (3) observing networks in support of Cal/Val activities (4) Data rescue of unreported and/or historical time series.

This workshop is expected to promote communication and share experiences of scientists in formatting data and following data standards to make their data useful for Cal/Val activities for current and future satellite missions such as e.g. ENVISAT, EarthCARE, Sentinel-3, Sentinel-4, Sentinel-5, Sentinel-5P, ALTIUS and CO2M. The workshop goes beyond routine discussions and aims to explore practical solutions to data management using the implementation of the Generic Earth Observation Metadata Standard (GEOMS) (https://evdc.esa.int/documentation/geoms/).

Target audience:

The workshop is designed to cater to a diverse set of target groups. The primary target groups include:

(1) Atmospheric scientists: Researchers and scientists specializing in atmospheric science, Earth Observation, and satellite calibration and validation.
(2) System developers: Professionals engaged in the development of systems and tools related to atmospheric data management and satellite missions.
(3) Data managers: Individuals responsible for handling, organizing, and curating atmospheric data within research institutions and observatories.

Location: NILU offices, Kjeller, Norway.

Dates: 23.rd (afternoon)-25.th (morning) October 2024

Note:
(1) This workshop is available for a maximum of 25 participants. Priority will be given to those associated with the EarthCARE validation exercise if many applicants.
(2) Participants are expected to cover their own expenses (travel/accommodation/visa/lunches) for participating in this workshop.
(3) The final agenda will be based on inputs from applicants. More information and final agenda will be shared with selected participants.
(4) All the information collected in this form will only be used for the activities associated with this workshop.

Application form: https://forms.office.com/e/A305CLWU3G. The deadline to submit this form is 15th September 2024.
