Homeless Data and Data Rescue includes the following focus areas with the aim of improving the ESA and EO services: Review the availability of historical, offline, and nrt/rd in-situ data which is not fed into FAIR data archives (referred to as “homeless” data), give recommendations, and encourage data holders to submit their Cal/Val data to EVDC. More specifically, the aim is to

  • Ensure sustainabiliy of in-situ observations
  • Improve European and Global in situ observation coordination & data exchange
  • Foster international cooperation
  • Harvest existing but currently unpublished and unavailable data
  • Explore new technologies such as e.g. drone and cheaper instrument solutions

What is offered?

EVDC offers full support of disc storage of the homeless data, and provision of landing pages and a DOI if needed. Data formatting is done in concertation with the PIs.

What can be stored?

For example, but not limited to -

Campaign data from historical and ongoing campaigns, from various platforms such as aircraft, balloons, drones, groundbased instruments and ship.

Historical- and ongoing time series from measurement networks and individual stations.

Data from rescue activities in the African Continent and Indian Ocean targeting atmosphere and climate research.

Data recovered from drifting buoys.
